The championship round usually offers up some of the best NFL games we see all football season

NFL Falcons vs Patriots

Championship Round Recap

The championship round usually offers up some of the best games we see all football season, but this year, the Falcons and Patriots stamped their tickets to the Super Bowl by winning in blowout fashion.

In Atlanta, an early missed field goal and a fumble in the red zone for the Packers set the tone for a game where the Falcons would score early and often with virtually no glimmer of hope throughout the entire game for Green Bay. Matt Ryan turned in one of the best championship game performances in history, throwing for almost 400 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another.

The AFC saw a competitive first half, at least, but once Le’Veon Bell was sidelined with a groin injury, Pittsburgh’s offense was unable to keep up with New England and Tom Brady who picked apart the Steelers zone defense that refused to send extra pass rushers at Brady.

What to Watch for in the Super Bowl

Storyline to Watch – The Patriots Legacy

There’s no arguing that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have led New England to become one of the great dynasties in sports history. If the Pats are able to secure their fifth Championship in the Brady/Belichick era, the quarterback/coach duo may shoot to number one all time. Should they make it to the podium in Houston, the exchange between Brady and commissioner Roger Goodell will be the post-game highlight that everyone is looking for — remember that Brady was suspended for the first four games of 2016 for the now infamous Deflategate.

Player to Watch – Julio Jones

Any question about Jones’ health was put to rest against Green Bay, as Julio caught nine balls for 180 yards and two scores on Sunday. Bill Belichick is known for scheming to take away a team’s top offensive weapon, especially if that player is a wide receiver. Atlanta is so explosive, though,  that Belichick may pull back from the all out approach that he usually deploys against a single player.
